Portfolios are a vital part of the application of every UX/ Product Designer. My initial portfolio was based on the assumption that it would be beneficial to build it from scratch using HTML and CSS. While this would demonstrate my understanding of programming, it would also provide maximum flexibility to create whatever I imagined.
Well... Reality caught up with me, and it turned out to take a tremendous amount of time for little return (design wise). I created a functional webpage that I customized, but it stayed way behind expectations. At the same time I saw portfolios of my colleagues built with modern tools like WordPress, and from first misjudging them for taking a "shortcut", my mindset shifted towards realizing that it was me who did not use the full potential of state-of-the-art web technology.
I set a new goal to build an outstanding portfolio using Webflow, and meanwhile demonstrate my ability to go through the design process of making a User Analysis and a Low-Fi Prototype in Figma.
The process included:
As if I were working with a real client, I decided to put everything in one place so that it would be easy to share and comment on it.
Following the Figma Project:
Use Ctrl+Scroll to Zoom in and out.
Through data collected with Google Analytics on my previous website, I was able to gain some insights into visitor behavior. I could answer questions like: what's the preferred device with which they visit the website (desktop/ tablet / mobile)? How much time does the average visitor spent on the website? How many actions does a visitor in average perform (clicks or scrolls) ?
I also took a screenshot of the original website and critiqued several points about it to make sure it was done better in the future design.

I kept the user research minimalistic. I brainstormed different users in my portfolio (HR recruiters, product managers) and filled out the value proposition canvas for one of them. Finally, a short user story to conclude
"As a product manager/ HR recruiter I want to learn about the process/ experience/ quality of work so that I can hire Chris as Digital Product/ UX Designer"
To start the design process, I began with a site map that included all the content and navigation I wanted in my portfolio from a higher-level perspective. Then I started sketching out each page and section with a layout, its sections and later with written content.
Finally, I went into Webflow and created the website from scratch. The result is what you watched all the way to get here ;)
